Gadar is the story of an undercover agent, Ram Kumar, who infiltrates the ranks of Khalistan militants to root out their most feared assassin - code name Gadar. This killer has surfaced in Delhi, armed with a deadly time bomb. With only 12 hours till it blows up, Ram Kumar must race against time to find Gadar and dismantle his lethal plot.The movie features Bollywood superstars Akshay Kapoor and Sunil Shetty in lead roles with Anupam Kher as its villainous villain, Malkit Singh as Baaj Singh, Amit Dutta as superintendent of police Jaspal Sharma and Amrita Singh as Mukti. The movie has been directed by Umesh Shukla. Music is by A. R. Rahman with lyrics penned by Anvita Dutt Guptan, Lyrics for the song "Tell Me" are penned by Javed Akhtar and it is sung by Ajay Chawla.The movie was released on 19 August 2008 on more than 1120 screens all over India, which is declared as a super success of the year 2008. The movie was also dubbed into Telugu with the same name dubbed into Tamil as "Gadar". It also won two Filmfare Awards, one for Best Film and another for Best Supporting Actor (Sunil Shetty). A. R. Rahman won a National Film Award for the song "I Often Dream of Tranquillity" from this movie, which he composed and wrote the lyrics.
